Don't Leave Without Something
I know you've heard the American Express trademark saying, "Don't leave home without
it." Change the saying to "Don't leave the room without it!" and you will get more accomplished.
I have always been pretty good about looking around a room to see if there was something I could deliver to another part of
my home, but one day last week I made a conscious effort to take things with me that didn't belong in a particular room,
just to see what would happen. (I've got two dogs, two cats, and two kids so things are constantly travelling around
my home! My house is just like everyone elses!) I was pleasantly amazed to see how much got done without officially
working on a project. Now if I can just get my dogs, cats, and kids to do the same!

Crabs Are Organized Creatures!
While sitting on the beach at New Smyrna recently, I was able to watch some of the fearsome
sand crabs that felt safe enough to emerge from the holes they had created. I obviously couldn't see what their
tasks were on the inside of these sandy tubes, but I was able to observe what they brought out. With their huge claws,
these crabs would work diligently to form a sandball that would then be carefully brought to the surface of the beach and
finally thrown away from the sandy hole. While I was sitting there, I realized these creatures totally understand the
meaning of purging! I imagined they have a very pristine sand tube, keeping only what was beautiful and useful.
Clutter of any kind was discarded so that these crabs could enter or exit without any difficulty and still be safe.
What a smart bunch of organized creatures!

Purse Update
I have found a new purse! Yes, it is smaller and fits just what I need inside of it. My daughter's
friend acknowledged the fact that my purse was too big when she said to me, "I just watched you climb into your purse
to find something. Your purse is too big!" I feel much better now and things aren't
going to collect in my new purse because there is no room. Remember, wherever there is space, things will gradually
fill that space.

How Do I Stop Acquiring?
I was working with a client recently and part of our work consisted of purging out the house to ready it for
sale. When we finished for the day, the foyer was crowded with piles of books, household items, pillows, clothing and
a variety of other items. My client looked at the piles and made note of how much "stuff" he had accumulated.
"How do I keep from accumulating so much stuff?" he asked. I told him the best way to keep from bringing things
into your home is to say to yourself, "Self, if you really want that, then come back next week to purchase it."
99% of the time you will not go back! It will not be that important to you when it is not right in front of you.
Try this technique the next time you have an impulse to buy something!

Bahamian Time
I just returned from a week in Eleuthera, Bahamas doing construction work with the youth of
my church. We stayed at the Methodist Habitat in James' Cistern without air conditioning, and sometimes without
power. One thing I truly enjoyed was Bahamian time. You don't need a watch in the Bahamas. Everything
happens when it happens. One day my work group of seven finished a project and had to wait for paint to arrive
from the foreman. We had finished eating our lunch at about 1:00 so we found a few inches of shade to cool
off in while we waited for the paint. We talked, we threw rocks at cans, we laughed, we viewed the ocean, and we sat
quietly for a while. At around 3:30, our paint arrived, and so did our ride back to the camp. We accepted the
fact that the painting would get done the next day. It was nice to have a little Bahamian time.
